If you are to understand the dynamics that shape your experience in the material universe, you need to keep in mind that the entire world of form was created for a very specific purpose. That purpose was to open up for an experience of what it is like to be less than – separated from – the Allness. Yet it was never God’s intention to make this experience permanent. This world was created as being less but also created to follow a path of gradually becoming more, until it again merges into the Allness from which it came and from which it was never truly set apart.

Your Creator has projected itself into the world of form as two polarities. One is the Mother Light, which obediently takes on any form projected upon it by the other polarity, namely the self-conscious beings with co-creative abilities. It is essential to understand that your Creator experiences the world of form through you. The Creator has a memory of the Allness and has a sense of oneness with the Allness that can never be lost. So when you experience limitations in the world of form, your Creator – through you – experiences what it is like to be less than and separated from the Allness. Your Creator created you partly in order to have this experience. Thus, for your Creator, any experience you have contributes to the Creator’s experience of what it is like to be less than the Allness. Why is this important? Because while your Creator can have – through you – an experience of being less than the Allness, the Creator can never be lost in this experience. The Creator can experience the illusion of being separated from the Allness, but the Creator can never fully believe that this appearance of separation, the appearance of less, is real or permanent. The reason is that your Creator’s sense of self-awareness did not originate inside the world of form, and thus it could never be confined to this world. Your Creator knows with an absolute knowing that it is more than the world of form. In contrast, you do not know what it is like to be less than the Allness, for you have not experienced the Allness. Thus, you can become lost in the world of form, thinking it is all there is and that you have no way of rising above your separate and limited sense of identity. Obviously, this is not what the Creator wants for you.

Let me illustrate this point with an analogy. Imagine yourself in a theater as one of the actors in a play. You are fully aware that you started life outside the theater. You entered the building and put on a costume. In order to give a convincing performance, you set aside your normal personality and take on the personality of the character you are playing. Yet when the performance is over, you take off the costume, revert back to your normal personality and leave the theater—returning to the “real” world or at least the world of your long-term sense of identity. Now imagine that a person has been born inside a theater and has never seen the world outside. The person has seen people entering and leaving the theater but has never really thought about what is outside. Thus, the person has come to believe that the theater is all there is to reality and that the world of the theater is real in an ultimate sense. The person might even believe that he or she has no life separate from the theater and has no identity apart from the role he or she is currently playing.

You are a self-aware being and you are an extension of your Creator. Yet you are not created simply as a puppet, as a toy, for your Creator. Your Creator has given you the gift of life, meaning that you have self-awareness, imagination and free will—you have the ability to create your own experience, even your own material circumstances, by using the Mother Light. And you have free will to design this experience according to your imagination and your own choosing. Your Creator did not originate within its own creation, and the Creator can never fall prey to the illusion that the world of form is the only reality. Yet because you did originate within the world of form, you can come to believe that what you have created is the ultimate reality and that you have no way to escape it. Thus, while the Creator can never become lost in its own creation, you can. You can believe that you really are a limited human being, living on a planet where life is suffering.

It is understandable that you might accept this illusion, and God does not blame you for identifying fully with the role you are now playing in the theater called planet Earth. Yet your Creator also knows that you have the potential to expand your sense of self-awareness beyond what you experience right now. Because you are an extension of the consciousness of the Creator, you have the potential to reach the full awareness of the Creator.

You might have heard about a holographic image. It is a type of photograph, but it is unique in that the whole image is comprised of individual parts and each part has a smaller replica of the whole. We might say that you are created as one part of the holographic image that is the Creator expressing itself as the world of form. Your individual consciousness contains within it a replica of the whole, and by magnifying your awareness of the whole, you can become one with the whole, you can become all that the whole is, you can become the All. This is the highest potential that comes with the gift of life.

Here is the essential point. You were created as a separate being, living inside the world of form. Yet it was never your Creator’s intention that you should become permanently lost in the world of form, in your separate identity. Your Creator wants you to realize that the material world is just a theater in which you have taken on a particular role in a play. Your Creator never wanted you to permanently identify yourself with and as that part or think there is nothing more to life than the play. Why not? Because your Creator knows that this world is incredibly limited compared to the Allness. The Creator knows that the material universe, at its current level of development, is incredibly limited compared to the spiritual realm. You are an extension of the Creator and your Creator loves you as itself because you are itself. Thus, the Creator has no desire to see you permanently trapped in a limited world in which you experience life as suffering.

Remember that the Creator experiences separation through you because you are an extension of the Creator’s Being. However, this works both ways, meaning that you can experience the Creator’s Being while in this limited state. You can experience that you are the Creator experiencing limitations through your lower being. When you have this experience of expanded awareness, you will no longer be lost in separation and you will no longer be identified with the limitations that cause suffering. You will rise above all identification with this world, and this is called enlightenment—the state of knowing who you truly are.

You might ask why your Creator then created you as a limited being that is trapped on a planet with so much suffering. The overall answer is that your Creator did not create you with your current sense of – human – identity nor did it create the Earth with its current level of imperfection and suffering. So who created the separate being – the separate sense of identity – that you see yourself as being today? You did! Who created the world that you live in today? Humankind did so collectively! I will give further explanation of this fact, but I will approach it gradually.

Let me try to make this as clear as possible. You were created as a self-aware being with a separate sense of identity that is more or less narrowly focused on your sense of self. With your current sense of self, you probably see yourself as separate from other beings in your environment and from the Creator. This is not necessarily wrong, but since you are a spiritual person, you need to become more aware of your potential to expand your sense of self. In other words, while you were created as a separate being, you have the potential to grow beyond that. You can follow a path that expands your sense of self until you attain a sense of oneness with your source – your Creator – and with all life.

You were created as a separate being, but you were not created to remain a separate being. You were created to start out as a separate being and then follow a path of growing in self-awareness, until you overcome separateness and become one with the All without losing your sense of individuality. In other words, the underlying theme in the world of form is to grow from separateness to oneness. What many religious people call salvation is this exact process of growing from a separate sense of identity to an expanded sense of identity, in which you realize the oneness of all life and live accordingly. As I have said, everything is created from the Creator’s consciousness, which has been temporarily projected into a limited, separate form. Yet the Creator does not want its own Being to remain trapped in such limitations forever. Thus, all that was created out of the Creator’s consciousness is meant to return to the Creator. You too can return, the difference being that in this return you will not lose your identity but will magnify it until you can enter the Allness or become a creator for your own universe. Thus, the real purpose of life is to transcend your current sense of identity until you reach what we might call full God consciousness.

We might say that all separate beings were created as “self-transcending beings.” As we will see later, there are various evolutions in the world of form, but they are all created to self-transcend, going from separateness to oneness.

Always keep in mind that the world of form is designed to be different from the Allness. Yet because it is designed by a Being from the Allness, there are also some similarities. One similarity is a oneness in purpose. Both worlds are set up to facilitate the growth in the self-awareness of individual beings. A self-conscious, or self-aware, being grows by expressing its creative abilities and divine individuality, and then learning from experiencing the reactions generated by its actions.

One of the main differences between the two worlds is that in the Allness individual Beings do not see themselves as separate from each other or the whole. Thus, it is inconceivable that one Being would choose to do something that would hurt another or that is aimed at making itself seem better than others. In the Allness, all Beings are not only created equal, they are equal in every way because they are all part of the same whole. Thus, a Being in the Allness could never conceive of using its will to go against the whole or the purpose of creation. It could never see its will as being in opposition to the purpose of life or the will of other beings. Such a being has self-awareness, but it is not a separate self-awareness.

In the world of form self-conscious beings start out with a self-awareness as separate beings. You are meant to grow from separateness to oneness, but you have imagination, so it is possible to envision a scale upon which one being is better or more important than others. You have free will, so it is possible to use that will to try to create the appearance that you are more important or more powerful than others. In doing so, you might seek to limit others in order to make yourself look better. You might even seek to destroy others if they oppose your attempt to control them. My point is that when your Creator created self-conscious beings with a limited self-awareness and endowed them with imagination and free will, a very specific concern was brought into being. That concern is how to balance the individual will of separate beings with the overall purpose of the world of form. How can you make it possible for beings to express their imagination and will without destroying themselves or each other in the process? When you look at the wars and atrocities that this small planet has witnessed in its relatively short existence, I am sure you can see that this is a rather important consideration. Thus, we will look at it in greater detail.

Let us begin by considering what it really means to make free choices. I have already stated that if you do not know what your options entail, you cannot make truly free choices. In the Allness, all Presences know that they are one with the Allness and thus one with each other. If one Presence was to do something that hurt another Presence, it would literally be hurting itself at the same time. A Presence in the Allness does have free will, but it would never conceive of using it to hurt or limit itself. We might say that a Presence in the Allness cannot use its free will as if it was a separate being. From your present viewpoint that might seem like a limitation, but consider that it is the inconsiderate use of free will that is the cause of all suffering on Earth. So perhaps this is not really a limitation.

Because a Presence in the Allness sees itself as one with every aspect of the Allness, it would never do something to hurt others. It knows that it is perfectly possible to raise up itself and at the same time raise up all life. And because of its sense of oneness with all life, it has no desire to raise itself compared to others. It knows that the only true way to raise itself is to raise all life.

In the Allness comparisons have no meaning and neither do value judgments. Although Presences in the Allness have unrestricted free will, they would never conceive of using their will as a separate will or as something that was out of harmony with what is best for the All—meaning themselves.

In the world of form, you have beings who were created with a separate sense of identity. And because the material universe has not reached the intensity of light found in higher realms, it is possible for a being to truly believe that it is separated from other forms of life. Thus, it can fall prey to the illusion that it can hurt others without hurting itself. It might even think it can benefit from doing something that hurts others. As I have said, everything in the world of form is created out of the Mother Light, which is an expression, an extension, of the consciousness of the Creator. Thus, everything is connected at the level of the Mother Light, but this connection is hidden from the conscious awareness of those who focus their attention on separation. The more you focus on the appearance that you are a separate being, the more unable you are to see any deeper connection between yourself and the All. If you choose to harm or limit other people, you are in all reality harming yourself as well. Yet you will not be able to perceive this and you might not be able to conceptualize it either. In other words, you are not making a truly free choice when you hurt others. You are making such choices because you are trapped in an illusion, the illusion of separateness that prevents you from seeing that you are hurting yourself by hurting others.

My point is that the fact that you see yourself as a separate being makes it possible for you to use your will as if you really were a separate being. Thus, you can convince yourself that your actions do not have consequences that affect you. You can even convince yourself that your actions do not have any (negative) consequences at all. What is the deciding factor between those who are trapped inside this illusion and those who have seen beyond it? It is the level of self-centeredness. The more self-centered you become – the more attached you are to your separate sense of identity – the more blind you are to the reality that all life is one interconnected whole. Thus, you begin to believe that you have a right to do whatever you want and that you can get away with doing whatever you want. If you look at history, you will see that some of the worst human atrocities were perpetrated by the most self-centered people on the planet. One of the inescapable consequences of giving separate beings free will is that it is possible that one being can build the illusion that it is the center of the universe, that it is the only being that matters and that it has a right to do whatever it wants without considering how it affects others. A separate being might even believe that all other separate beings are here only to serve its own needs.

This leads to an interesting conclusion. If your Creator had given all self-transcending beings free will without setting up any safety mechanism to guide the use of that free will, it would have given an unfair advantage to those who had become self-centered. The more self-centered you become, the more willing you are to disregard how your actions affect others. You are willing to control others and to destroy those who will not be controlled. So the more insensitive and aggressive you become, the more willing you are to use your free will to control, harm or destroy others. If there was no mechanism to restrain the most self-centered beings, this world of form could have descended into anarchy with no hope of ever emerging from this state of chaos. I know it might seem as if the law of the jungle reigns supreme on Earth, but that is not actually the case, as we will see.

Let us remember that the purpose of this world of form is to give you the opportunity to start out with a separate sense of identity and gradually expand your sense of self until you become the Allness. Yet because you have free will, it is possible for you to go in the opposite direction. In the process of doing so, you might imprison or destroy other self-transcending beings before you finally destroy yourself. In other words, free will gives you the opportunity to create a downward spiral that traps you behind a wall of self-created illusions. This can make you blind to the consequences of your choices. Thus, once you have become blinded by self-centeredness, you can no longer choose to pull yourself out. You are now hurting yourself without fully realizing what you are doing, and thus you are not truly making free choices.

An intelligent and loving Creator obviously would not want this to happen to any of the extensions of itself. Thus, it was necessary to set up certain laws that could accompany the Law of Free Will, creating a safety net that could give separate beings all possible opportunities for not destroying themselves.

Before we move on, let us summarize what we have discussed so far. We have said that as a self-transcending being with unrestricted imagination and free will, you have the potential to follow two roads, two paths, in life. You were created to start your journey at a particular level of the world of form. Some beings were created at the highest level of the world of form, while others were created to start in the material universe, which is currently the lowest level of the world of form.

The purpose of the world of form is to give beings the opportunity to start out as separate beings in a limited world and then grow from there toward full self-awareness as being one with the All.

In other words, the basic design of the universe is that you start at a certain level of the world of form and then work your way up from there. Jesus described this process in his parable about the talents, where those who multiplied their talents were rewarded by receiving greater creative powers. To him that has, more shall be given (Matthew 25:29).

If you multiply the talents you were given when you were created, God will multiply your offering and thus you will have more. In other words, if you use your imagination and free will as intended, you will place yourself on a path that leads to greater abundance and self-awareness. This is the path of becoming MORE than you are, more than you were created to be.

On the other hand, you have free will, so you have the potential to imagine that you could bury your talents in the ground and become less than you were created to be. In fact, you will become less even by not multiplying what you were given. As Jesus’ parable describes, you live in a universe that is meant to expand and grow. Thus, the entire world of form is constantly becoming MORE. As an individual, you can go with the flow or you can go against the flow. Yet stillstand is not an option in the sense that if you do not go with the flow, you will fall behind. We might say that you have a right to refuse to grow, refuse to multiply your talents and become MORE, but you do not have a right to demand that the rest of the universe stops its growth in order to accommodate you.

My point here is that the alternative to the path of becoming MORE is the path of becoming less. Instead of expanding your self-awareness, you now restrict your self-awareness. Instead of becoming aware of the self as the greater Self, the All, you create a sense of self that is less than what you were originally given. You become more and more centered on that lesser self, you become more and more selfish and unable or unwilling to see beyond your short-sighted self-interest.

We can also say that the path of becoming MORE is the path of abundance. It is what Jesus called the kingdom of God or the abundant life (Luke 12:32). It is what the Buddha called the state of enlightenment and what many other religions have described as a form of paradise. In contrast, the path of becoming less will give you the opposite of abundance. You will experience all kinds of limitations, and this will cause you to feel that life is a struggle. Thus, the path of becoming less is the path of suffering. You might know that the Buddha defined the four noble truths, and the first of them is that life is suffering. Well, life is only truly suffering when you walk the path of becoming less. And as the Buddha pointed out, there is an alternative, namely to walk the path of becoming MORE – what he called the Middle Way – leading you to enlightenment, which is truly a state of realistic self-awareness as a self-transcending being.

I hope you can now see that we have reached an understanding that can dramatically change your life. Many of the world’s religions have hinted at this explanation, but none have expressed it with full clarity. Yet once you understand and fully acknowledge that you must choose between two paths, you can completely change your outlook on life, religion, God and yourself. You can then quickly expand your understanding until you can make a truly free – meaning a fully informed – choice about whether you want to continue on the path of becoming less or whether you will make a decisive effort to place yourself firmly on the path of becoming MORE. If you decide to follow the path of less, you will inevitably lose your spiritual freedom, so the only way to attain true spiritual freedom is to follow the Path of MORE.
